I often run my trains with my toddler around. Once I have the speed set the thing I am looking for the most is the whistle button. Is it possible to use a stand alone whistle button with dcs? I am looking for something I can simply mount to the side of the layout?

I suppose there's the Lionel 5906 whistle button for conventional running.(if you can find one) I don't think you'll be able to do it in command mode.
How about an American Flyer whistling bill board, or a Lionel whistling freight shed?

Great Idea.... I had a hanging whistle chord mounted through a wooden handle just above my KW on one of my early layouts.. It was activating a 5906 via a spring loaded bicycle brake part. However it's long gone but fun at the time. Kids loved it.
JHZ, my toddlin grandchildren had no problem learning the whistle button on the remote, and then gradually moved on to learn other controls, including the E-stop. But I did mount a neck lanyard on a remote so they would crack my concrete floor.
