Back in the late 1980's & early 1990's I built a Lionel Super O display type layout for a local Christmas Festival at our state park. The layout was there between Thanksgiving and New Years each year. I ran the layout each weekend, often with the help of my Dad, and Lionel provided cartons of the latest catalogs that we gave out to the public.
Several thousand people attended the festival each year. This was a great way to share a great hobby. What prompted this post is I recently ran into someone who remembered the layout and said the went out and bought their first train set as a Christmas Present for their kids as a result of them coming to the festival and have enjoyed the hobby ever since.
My Dad and I, 30 years ago at the festival.
