Great story, Skip!  That had to be a lot of fun doing that with your dad!

Sharing the hobby with others is one of the main reasons I joined the NJ Hi-Railers.  I really enjoy interacting with the public during shows and answering questions, etc.

Before the virus we had a layout at the local museum every Christmas.

Those are great photos Skip. I see the Pacemaker boxcar in the middle picture and I'm trying to figure out the markings on the engine. Is that a PRR engine from the merger years?

I've been running command control demonstrations at my local group's toy train shows for most of the last 6 years. Small shows are great for meeting new people and talking about trains, I really enjoy being an ambassador for the hobby. I've been thinking about partnering up with a local museum for the holidays if I can find one that has space for a display.

This has long been a dream of mine - there's a little village near me that is an idea location. Will likely need to wait until retirement for me to lead such an endeavor, or join a group and contribute very limited part-time.

When I do public displays I always hope that someone who saw it got turned on to trains, and trains will become a lifetime hobby for them.

More than likely we will never know our impact, but you found out, that’s great!
