Do you save the outer brown shipping carton from Lionel, MTH etc.. or throw them away? I think I would have more room for product boxes if I did.

Storing O scale models. I reuse every original outer carton that I have available. I prefer to box every item or multiple items in a separate outer carton that is carefully packed and labeled with manufacturer, model number and description. I maintain a detailed inventory of every item that I own on my computer In many instances I place a packing slip in the box with the original date of purchase and price paid.
If you ever sell or trade a piece those shipping cartons are the best. Shipping without is a total PITA...
Yes, they do take up some space!
I keep as many of them as possible.
I save them, For one it helps to have them if you resell it and also you already have the outer box to ship it in. I have noticed a considerable amount a bid gets if you have them also. I just put for instance, a engine box back into the shipping box that way I reduce space and just the same as I do my accessories. I made a storage space above in my garage to put them away.
I save all of mine and if the item is not in use it is kept in the shipping box for the added protection

If you put the inner box back in the shipper and then store it, the extra space is minimal.
I agree w/ you, RickO. My reason is, I figure that when I am gone, it will make it a whole lot simpler for others to deal with my mess, most of which is stored under my layout in "The Land of Boxes."
However, I did make one mistake regarding saving boxes of any kind - a biggie. I did discard all the boxes for our Dept 56 buildings which I had thought were all that was available for scenery when I entered our hobby back in the early 90's. Big mistake. Becuase what I was so sure would never be needed again, now, cannot help me store the very fragile loose porcelain buildings in The Land of Boxes.
I lived and learned, but too late.

Thanks for the input guys. I have most of the Conventional Classics but I rarely see those cool postwar style boxes they came in because they are hidden in the shipping box.
