Of recently available, and not so recent, smaller engines l thought appropriate as branch and short-line steamers, are the Weaver Baldwin 2-8-0 and the Williams 4-6-0. If these were successful, they have been running on layouts for quite a while. Have you had good service running these for some time, or not?

What is "Short-Lived Stean"?
Fwiw, I have the Weaver Models PRR C1 switcher. It was updated with Gunrunner John's superchuffer and most recently the "your last battery" and it works great so far!

Short-line steam?
Do you mean the Williams by Bachmann Baldwin 4-6-0 that came out around 2012?
I have the C&O version that WBB released in 2015. It runs very well. As with all Williams products, it doesn't have all the bells and whistles -- actually, that's all it has. No chuffs, squealing brakes or continuous sound in general. But I like mine a lot, nonetheless.
