In my continuing research into the purchase of a MTH Z4000, I learned an interesting bit of info.  After reading the stories, pro and con on the Z4000 and those who have had issues with them, shopping around for one realistically priced, I asked Trainz about their Z4000 listings.  When you order a used one from them, they do have a money back guarantee for 30 days, or a repair option.  But, they do not check or test any Z4000 they sell, they rely totally on the fact that the person they bought the transformer from told them it was working.  The hassles involved with finding out one you bought did not work on arrival, sending it back, seem to offset any savings by the aggravation that might ensue.  With all the electronic whizz bang functions in O gauge things today, for a commercial entity to offer things for sale, 'as is',  does not seem like a good practice, but, maybe the 30 day repair/replacement option offsets the expense of having someone test things before being sold.
