Smoke is my favorite feature. I was thrilled when they started making smoking diesels to go with our smoking steamers we have had since we were kids.

I would love to see all types of smoking locomotives, caboose and structures. Arnold

A little humor from the past.....

When Mike and I were designing the TAS smoke unit, I started to blend some smoke fluids.  I mixed up a batch of cedar but the conclusion was that it smelled like burning electronics.  Not a good thing when your primary products are electronic.

I really like the way my proto 2 engines smoke, They'll burn you out of the basement.

I also have a Premier PS1 GS5 That smokes like crazy.

I agree, many of my MTH locomotives are great smokers.  If I had to make a list, most of the MTH stuff would be at or near the top.

PS: Would love to see smoke from VisionLine locomotives.

Just finished repairs so figured good as any place to post it.  Was brand new in box but had some issues . Now good as new so now have two of these.

Suethe smoke units deserve their own category so only those familiar with Suethe units may appreciate this. I've never come accross one that works as well as this one.

Who said MTH Proto 1 locomotives aren't great smokers. GGG did a great job restoring the smoke for this Railking Proto 1 Reading Crusader:

We put ps2 in this guy but left the ps1 smoke units.  Coughcough

I'd be surprised if anyone said PS/1 locomotives aren't good smokers, they typically do quite well.

All of my smoking motive power are MTH outside of my PW stuff. Any two running at the same time with the smoke set at the mid level or above on the DCS handheld sets of the smoke alarms in the basement train room so no pics to post but could record the smoke alarms going off if I take the videos.

FWIW:

I only have two 3-rail steam engines w/smoke: A 2055 and a 2065. Neither are robust smokers.

However, I do like the aroma of the Mega-Smoke "Smoke Pellet" oil. I was never around Lionel's w/smoke pellets as a kid, so I wanted to see what all the hub-bub about the smoke pellet smell was about. Tried it, liked it. Now I understand!

My Legacy M1B never disappoints.

Long time personal favorite - first run Legacy FEF3 with (unreliable) 6 ohm smoke unit - actually a smoke ring unit:

Wow, that's impressive. IF VL ever makes a steamer that smokes like that, that also runs thru 031 curves and 022 switches, and it is a model of a Northeastern steamer, I might spend the big bucks to get it.

This is a 1950 773 with two  25 ohm resistors, extra batting and the air hole opened a little bit.

Jill, my English Springer Spaniel, is not particularly impressed .  She prefers the Standard Gauge on the floor.

Here’s my only smoker and a great idea for a thread.

Pound for pound, my little MTH Docksider is the best smoker. BTW this is the only MTH locomotive I own - given to me by a friend in my HO club.

A friend of mine recently got a Lionel Mohawk.  Per Lionel Service, he removed the sleeve on the resistor and put extra batting in.  Seems to have been a big success!!

My Alcos are just plane nuts when smoking.
