That repaint is a wonderful looking job, John!
Here are my custom painted and lettered RPO. The silver one is an Atlas, the other is a Weaver.

OH MAN ALIVE. Love those! Especially that Conrail switcher!
"OH MAN ALIVE"!!!!!! OMG! I haven't heard that phrase in forever! Boy does that bring back memories!!!
Here are a few of my customs paint jobs, most of which were done by friends with painting and decal skills far superior than I have.
MPC era custom painted ART reefer I picked up at a train show years ago, and an IC box car that started off life as a GN 6464 that I did many years ago back when my eyes were much better. .
An MTH bay window caboose that started out life as a N&W caboose and is now an L&N caboose. I picked this one up at a train show in Nashville.
An IC side door caboose and a US Hobbies brass 2 dome tank car. The IC caboose started off life as a Lionel RI caboose. A good friend added the side doors and marker lights. He also painted the caboose. I lettered the caboose. Another good friend painted and lettered the Texas Co. two dome tank car.
An Atlas troop sleeper converted to an NYC MOW crew sleeper. I painted and lettered this car. The crane tender car was a Lionel PS 4 NYC flat car.
A new Atlas undecorated Troop kitchen car painted and lettered for an NYC MOW Crew kitchen car by a good friend. I am still working on the assembly of the car's under frame.
Tennessee Central 40ft steel boxcars that are early Atlas undecorated box cars. My good 2rail friend painted and lettered the boxcars.
The same friend also painted and lettered these two undecorated Atlas Single sheathed box cars - an IC, and a Tennessee Central.
Thanks to all who have posted some great pictures on this thread and to the good friends who worked on these cars for me.

Very nice!
I just shot a lot of photos of many of my cabooses (forgot one, still to do) for that thread, but they are all kit built or bashed with custom decals, so qualify here, too, when l get them posted.
Anyone that's been on here for any length of time has seen mine. I'm too busy with other model train endeavors these days to much custom painting.

MTH did a MLB line several years back, but lost or gave up association, and Lionel picked it up.
I prefer the MTH rolling stock, and am increasing my Oriole train rolling stock.

Ahead of the cabooses, l am going to TRY to post pictures a different way, of my fleet of bashed, scratched, and kit built gas electrics.

Ol MILs Swedish BIKINI TEAM,
Tom M posted:Alright time for me to add one.
This is custom from top to bottom. This is a 3d print of a White Pass and Yukon Route GE Shovelnose diesel.
Here is the prototype.
My model is sits on a postwar alco frame with u36c 3 axle trucks. This has been in the planning stages for a while and I just finished the painting and decals a month ago. There are still a few detail projects to work on, but it will run around the tracks and look good while it does it too.
WOW, who makes that print?

I found a guy who created the 3d model originally for n-scale. I blew it up to fit on a postwar alco frame and still look right. I had it printed by a company called Shapeways out of New York, using a process called laser sintering.
In the future I want to create an On3 model using a higher definition printing medium which would quadruple the printing price. In the $400 range.
Shoot me a message if you want to know more.

Wow!!
Please tell us about your roster of locomotives..
Very impressive, thanks for posting the pictures.
Richard
Richard,
They're mostly Great Northern but also have NP, DM&IR, UP, SP, CN, Burlington, B&O, Milwaukee, C&O, NYC, N&W, PRR and logging. Most interfaced with GN but I have engines that I consider iconic in the 'steam' world.
A lot of work involved as all removable parts are disassembled, usually 75-150 pieces, and then painted. The multi-colored engines take even more time as thin as 1/32" pieces of masking tape are applied before painting.
Labor of love, obviously!
What Scale are you modeling in? The locomotives appear to be brass, correct?
Again, very very impressive!
Richard
Richard,
Here you go. One of my favorite threads to read. https://ogrforum.com/...eat-northern-railway

Richard,
HO and, yes, all brass engines. It's amazing what they did in that scale back in the late 80's, early 90's: Functioning cab vent hatches, closed cab operating doors, functioning smoke box door/sand box hatches/ top steam valve access hatches/tender water hatches and see through walk boards.
Lately, I have installed micro LED's into the classification lights on the engine and tender.

Back in the early 1980's, I was looking for another powered Alco to run with my Lionel Amtrak 8664. At the same time, I had a UP 202 Alco with a distressed shell from a previous set purchase. I decided to try my luck with an airbrush and repaint the UP in Amtrak colors. To my surprise, it actually turned out quite well for my first and only custom paint job. I put a random number on it (8523) and wired it to run in reverse. It worked out quite well to pull a long train of Amtrak 027 passenger cars.
The picture of the UP 202 is a stock picture from the Lionel Library just for comparison. My 202 shell was much more distressed than that. It helped that local hobby shops of the time all carried specific Amtrak paint colors. The third picture is a comparison to the Lionel 8664.

Terrific work, well done!
I've posted these before in other threads, but they fit here too. I wanted some LCT Orange and Blue trains, and so I created this 249E and 600/601/602 set in LCT colors.
