Well there was a lot of chatter on the boards about the lack of MTH Scaletrax #4 and #6 switches.  And for a while it did seem like they were never going to be available.  But it seems like your prayers have been answered cause I see it is now available from a number of dealers.  Some of you said your layouts were just about done except for the switches.  Some just needed them in general.  So now that they are in how about showing off your Scaletrax layouts in whatever phase of construction they are in.  Even though I use Atlas track I do have a soft spot for Scaletrax.  So let's see it.  BigRail

Here's the latest version of my new Scaletrax layout....  only in the design phase right now... so no pics yet .  Construction date TBD.  I've been purchasing buildings and track for some time now, and it sure feels good to know MTH has finally come through with those #4 and #6 turnouts that had largely gone MIA for a couple of years -- sans a few one-off purchases here and there.

This layout is largely based on a track plan from Lionel's post-war glory days, entitled "A Layout for the Years", which was featured in CTT magazine earlier this year.  I was intrigued by the track plan's variety of routes, so I've adapted the layout to a much larger space (approx. 32x10 in a 37x15 room) and transformed the "look and feel" to be a Hi-Rail themed layout with broad curves and a generous use of #4 and #6 turnouts (along with some O-72 turnouts as well).  The original Lionel plan, of course, was based on O-Gauge tinplate track with sharper curves and switches.

Since there are times I just like to sit back and watch the trains roll, I've also added a lower level figure-8  (in blue) and an upper level figure-8 (in purple) -- both of which will be disguised by some pretty dramatic scenery.

For Lionel purists out there... if you look carefully at the green and olive green trackage that comprises much of this project, you'll see lots of similarities to Lionel's "A Layout for the Years" track plan.  Super-O track always captured my fancy, and MTH Scaletrax's thin center rail is the closest thing to it nowadays!
