SHS 3 bay hoppers

"How late would the 3 bay hopper be in service?
I know they were painted in the BN scheme and CNW Zito scheme, they lasted that long.'

   Hi John, If you have a specific car number you might look it up in RRpictures archieves website and see what the dates on the photos are. If your specific car is not listed a nearby number in the series should work. In general cars last about 30-40 years at max but I've noticed that recessions weed out the older cars sometimes before they have even 30 years in. Covered hoppers built in the 60's might not have survived the '82 or '91 recessions for instance.....DaveB

It's amazing how much information the internet doesn't have...

Seeing the prototype of SHS's car harkens back to around 1953, I would suspect most if not all were gone by the late 1980's, being replace with higher capacity cars.

The Chicago & North Western Zito Yellow 3-bay hoppers lasted into the 1990's.

I saw them and took photos of them.
