Well, it happened-  the engine started making intermittent connection with the remote.  It was running fine, then the electrical contact seemed to go away.  At first, I could move it along the track, and it would re-start, but stop again.  Now when the track is powered up, I get the repeated tone (like it is not making a connection to the remote) but when I turn on the remote, the tone stop, but- only the smoke unit fan and headlight work.

Here is what I have tried:

1. The entire track had been cleaned using denatured alcohol and a Bright Boy in some areas this afternoon before this started.  The collector rollers and the wheels on the engine and tender are clean.

2.  Voltage on my ZWL was set at 15v AC- and I ran it up  to 18v - no difference.

3.  I changed the batteries in the remote, no effect.  I tried using the LC Universal Remote, and the Apple smart phone app- in both, cases, nothing.

4.  I sprayed plastic safe CR QD on the loco/tender tow bar to clean the connection, again no difference.

My other LC+ engines - a LC+ Pacific (three years old), and my LC+ RS-3 - work fine.

I haven't taken the shell off of the Berk, yet, since I don't know much about the electronics.  But it appears to be in the electronics. AND, 5 days out of warranty (12-17-17 purchase)!!!

Any ideas out there??

It was from the initial LC+ Berkshire run.  I checked- it was in "Remote" mode, not "Transformer".

More details:

1.  In "Transformer" it will run, puff and smoke.   I can blow the whistle and ring the bell using the transformer, but no chuff.   (Having never run it in "Transformer", I don't KNOW if it should "chuff".)

2.  The LC+ app did not pick up the locomotive, so the BT function is not working.

I'll wait until someone comes up with another answer or two, then take off the shell, and look for loose plugs, chafed wires, etc. (chafed wires SOUND like a likely culprit- operation was first intermittent, before stopping totally.)

No- the remote, and then the phone were tried separately, only one at a time.  Then I switched the loco to "Transformer" mode to find that it would run, smoke and the whistle blow, but no other sounds.

It may take awhile, but I ALWAYS solve the problem.  I will admit that MOST of the time when something is wrong, what is wrong, is ME.  So, I'll run through all of these possibilities again before I take it apart.  But thanks for the reminder.
