Some predictions are for 5 feet of snow and 100 mph winds on top of the Sierras.  Could we see the Rotary out for this one.

Maybe not, as the flangers and specially modified Jordan Spreaders can do a fantastic job, especially when operated continuously on "The Hill".

Blizzard warnings are actually rare in the Sierras and with 5 feet?  Could be avalanche territory.

Are not the rotaries VERY EXPENSIVE to operate?

Yes. Also requiring additional crew members, some from MOW and some from the Mechanical Dept.

As additional information, the rotary still has not yet been used, as the flangers and Jordan Spreaders have continued to keep the line open. UP has been running freight trains, but Amtrak canceled both directions of the California Zephyr (apparently leaving many passengers 'stranded' in Reno, on the westbound train)
