Need your opinions on these small units for accesssories and small loops of conventional trains. Any pitfalls/issues with these besides being only about 25-30 watts.
The 1010 does have an internal circuit breaker, but folks using small postwar Lionel transformers should be aware that some do not. Here is the service manual page.
My personal preference would be to use nothing smaller than a 90 watt unit, such as a 1033 or 1044.
If I had one to put out on my table at a train show, a clean 1010 transformer, with a good cord, would be no more than five dollars. I don't know what the "market price" would be.
Thanks CW, A Z1000 can be found for around 60-70 used and 90 new in my area.
Jim, I agree that the Z1000 is a fine transformer and I have 4, I was just looking for something less exspensive for a permanent halloween & Christmas layout and 3 loops around the Xmas tree.
