While my wife dragged me from store to store buying early christmas gifts I noticed these small cubes speakers about the width of a credit card for blue tooth phones,, hmmm the speakers sounded great and may fit in a dummy unit, hmmmm. it says for bluetooth reception,

Now the old brian is smoking,  What if we can send a bluetooth signal from the sound boards to the b unit dummy the little bluetooth speaker. Is this possible or have I had to much egg nog tonight?

It's a whole lot easier to just use a small 2-wire tether and pipe the sound over, cheaper too.

The first thing I thought of, However the egg nogged brain jumped into the next gear.

1 no tether

2 if put into another unit or units like an ABBA  you could have sound coming from all units with no wires. maybe, me thinks. but as you say it may take a few bucks.

I got to get one to see what the guts look like.

First I will take your advise to see how it sounds with the wire tethers.

it has its own enclosure box, I will pop it into a b unit and see how it sounds, if it sounds significantly better I will look into the next step.

Thanks for the input John

I'm guessing by the time you figure out how to get them all connected for each running session, you'll come back to my tether method.

One thing about tethers, you do have to potentially adjust the type of speaker or add an amplifier.  MTH and Lionel use different impedance speakers, and when you connect two in parallel, you have to have higher impedance models as the impedance in parallel is additive.  My take would be a small amplifier module from eBay to eliminate the need to tinker with any speaker changes.

I wired a line level transmitter that sent a Bluetooth signal to a receiver that was connected to a subwoofer at one time. It was a lot of work... It was similar to what Broadway Limited is doing in HO and N currently.

If you go look at Bluerailtrains.com you will see their Bluetooth control system can use a speaker like the one you mention. So the answer would be yes, it can be done. But as John points out, is it really worth it? That's up to you.

I would love to see every piece of rolling stock equipped with a receiver and a speaker. The engine could act as a mixer and send different sounds to different cars. Perhaps even be programmable... Send engine sounds to the first 3 cars in the consist, fading from 1-3. Send flange squeal and clickety clack to cars 5, 10, and 15. Specific mechanical reefer sounds to cars 6 and 7. Stock car sounds to 12-14. And finally crew chatter to the caboose. You get the idea...

Of course just putting appropriate sounds into the cars like the Lionel PS-1s and Tank cars is also a good way to go and less complex, but you can't send the engine sounds to them obviously.

If you just want to add one speaker you can't beat a simple tether though. Just watch the impedance as John mentioned.
