Smoke fan motor question?

I have a Lionel JLC Series Norfolk & Western Y6b 6-28085. Runs great smoke great sounds terrific. I have a question about the motor for smoke unit, and it stays on constantly. This is TMCC and I hit Aux1 then 9 comes on, smokes great, but when I hit Aux1 then 8 smoke stops but motor is running. Even when I shut it down and all sounds are done you can still hear the fan motor running. Is this normal for this engine? I heard the early TMCC engine had smoke unit motors that stayed on. Will this hurt fan motor? Thanks for your time on this matter.
