Do I have to use Lionel smoke fluid in Lionel locos? Can I use MTH or LGB smoke fluid? The same goes for MTH locos, can I use Lionel and/or LGB smoke fluid? I have quite a bit of LGB fluid and I'd like to use it. Have any of you used different brands of smoke fluid? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Most Smoke fluids are nothing more than super lightweight low sulfur mineral oils. If its heated it will smoke. Lionel and MTH will interchange but LGB is made differently. I believe that its made from Glycerine. It might work in a Lionel engine ( or might not) but you will void the warranty by doing so.

mega steam is where its at. I have used MTH and Lionel and don't really care for either of those.
While I prefer Megasteam, the Lionel Premium smoke fluid is pretty impressive. If you need some quickly and cannot wait for Megasteam to be delivered check the LHS for some of the Lionel Premium (the standard Lionel fluid sucks)

I'm a big fan of JT's Mega Steam. However I also have to mention Pats Trains, P&P's smoke fluid. I ordered some out of convenience while ordering something else and have to say I'm quite impressed with the amount of smoke it's pushing out of my MPC era Milwaukee Special. I don't think this engine has ever smoked as well with any other product.
Mega-Steam is the one!!!!! Biggest selection, works great, and terrific people to deal with.
