I have a Lionel Legacy New York Central E8 locomotive from 2017 which has run perfectly since I purchased it. Suddenly today with the smoke unit running on high I started to see wisps of smoke coming out the front cab window! The windows do not fit perfectly so there is a little gap there. The smoke is still coming out of the stacks normally and there is no smoke coming from the cab window when the smoke unit is turned off. I tried blowing down the stack several times but that has not helped. Any ideas?

Your engineer took up vaping? 😂
Haha!
I'm going to say that the foam gasket between the funnel and shell has dissolved and letting smoke leak in to the cab.

or there is a bubble in the smoke unit filler, try blowing down the stack.
My vote is for the gasket over the smoke funnel, I frequently have to replace those when things come in for service.
Leaky gasket ...

Whatf material do you use for gaskets and what kind of glue do you use to stick to the roof of the engine. I have tried hot glue and it tends to slide off after a time.

I agree. It’s likely the gasket. No big deal. Save the repair for a rainy day.
I use 1/8" sticky back foam. I assume that they won't last forever, but they last as good as the crap that Lionel and MTH puts in there.

High heat automotive silicone. You can also make gaskets with it, but they are a little stiff. (get shape close but fat, let it skin but not full cure, squish until cured using plastic wrap, wax paper, tape etc. to mask the non-stick side in case you burst your liquid filled "tire" while squishing.
High heat (usually red) silicone can take exhaust heat without issue. In a pinch, a coat of that and tin can wrap with hose clamps has saved me from an exhaust ticket and put off that shop bill for a bit more than once. Same with chasing a stack gasket
I guess it could be a resivior to board gasket leak too. Peek at that too.
Or maybe the fireman left the firebox door open? 😬

What John said.
You can get 8x11 sheets of the stuff at Michael's.
