I just replaced the smoke unit in my Chesapeake & Ohio 2-6-6-6 Allegheny Steam Locomotive.  I noticed the fan in the smoke unit still goes on when I turn the smoke off with the CAB-1 and with the switch under the engine.  Is this normal?  I don't have any smoke fluid at this time so I can't tell you if the smoke stops or not.

I don't think you have to press 3 times.  The L, M, H momentum setting for the TMCC ACREG are one push buttons.  You can go from L to H by just pressing H.

I think it is neat Rick found that several cycles can turn smoke fan off, but that has to be when the fan is run from the Regulator.  Some engines have the fan wired with AC input all the time.  So they can't turn off.  I think that was just some early models though.   G

Even if I have the smoke switch under the engine in the off position the fan in the my smoke unit still turns on.  You would think that switch would cut the power to the smoke unit.  I have to hit '8' several times until it turns off.  The fan also turns back on if I cut track power and then turn it on again.  I have to continually keep turning off the smoke unit.  Maybe this is why the smoke unit burned out in the first place.  I'll have to keep an eye on it.

only the resister creates heat and then smoke.  turn off the resister and no heat will be produced.

Okay, but can I be assured the resister is off if the smoke switch under the engine is in the off position?
