I'm just getting into DCS and wanted to do it economically, so I purchased a used TIU (rev I3) and remote, separately.

I was downloading the installer, and was reading about upgrading to 5.0. In the instructions it mentions either erasing, or not, based on the version already installed in the TIU and remote.

Should I mess with trying to figure out which version is currently installed, or just reset both the TIU and remote, and load 5.0 from the get go?

Also, does anyone know of specific USB to RS232 cables or adapters that WON'T work? I'm going to have to get one, my TIU has the serial port on it.

Thanks,

Definitely do a Reset on the remote and a Factory Reset on the TIU.

I know that the Gigawire cable and the Radio Shack (if you can find one) cable work very well. I also suggest that you purchase a copy of The DCS Companion 3rd Edition.

Everything that you need to know about DCS is all in MTH’s “The DCS Companion 3rd Edition", available for purchase  from many fine OGR advertisers and forum sponsors, or as an eBook or a printed book at MTH's web store!
