Software upgrade

Should I mess with trying to figure out which version is currently installed, or just reset both the TIU and remote, and load 5.0 from the get go?

Definitely do a Reset on the remote and a Factory Reset on the TIU.

Also, does anyone know of specific USB to RS232 cables or adapters that WON'T work? I'm going to have to get one, my TIU has the serial port on it.

I know that the Gigawire cable and the Radio Shack (if you can find one) cable work very well. I also suggest that you purchase a copy of The DCS Companion 3rd Edition.

I've tried a few different USB to Serial adapters.  They all seem to work well as long as you get the driver disk to install with them!

I had an issue last night upgrading Rev L TIU's and I kept getting "fatal error no serial port found" while using the USB cable. Had to dig out the ol Dynex serial adapter from Best Buy and spend 45 minutes finding the drivers for that

Best Buy is now peddling the "Insignia" brand adapter cable. I think I'm going to try my chances with it.
