I have an old Standard gauge observation car that needs the railing at the rear reattached. The soldered joints(two) are broken. Any advice on how powerful an electric soldering iron I need to repair it. This is an old #36 Lionel, original paint, rust-free and complete and I think it deserves to be saved. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

I'am thinking a WELLER pistol grip iron ought to do it....
If the original paint is in good shape, do you want to solder?
I'd be concerned about burning the paint.
How about using an adhesive?
Agreed. I would use epoxy.
Thanks for the info. I have considered adhesive but which one ?? JB Weld, a 2 part epoxy ?? I have to make a cradle to hold the railing in place for the adhesive to set. Someone mentioned 3M body panel adhesve and I checked that out, way too costly.
A bit of JB Weld, either the fast set or slower set, holds really well. I prefer it to the various "super glues" I have used. Keeping everything in position during the set time is very important but you already have that addressed.

How about a few photos of it. j
My go to adhesive for something like this is Loctite 380 available at Granger. NOT available at auto parts, big box, discount or hardware stores.
Have to look for a Grainger store. Thanks. Will try to post some pics when I git er done.
