As the story goes, back in 1999 or so it was decided that 734 needed a stoker. Back then, the

place to get a new stoker was China, so one was ordered, and installed. However, a whistle

that no one claimed to have ordered came with the stoker. And, as I said, the story goes

that the whistle was never used. That is until 2005 when Ray Larson, who worked for

the WMSR then, found it, and put it on one weekend. I agreed to make some video so

Ray put on quite a show as you will see.

 

For you New York Central fans, this is about what the 38 Century may have sounded,

as the whistle is said to be a copy of a Nathan five chime.
