Ben you branching out into a new road name. Nice pictures
Ben,
The Suzy Q bought their 1800s brand new, IIRC. All the others you show are indeed second hand. I used to see lots of Suzy Q in Allentown when DO was in charge of the D&H.

LVHR
Oh Susie Q!
bop-ba-dah!
ba-dump-bah-ba-dah!
Oh great. Now he is going to repaint a couple of EM1's for the SusieQ.
Very nice pics and a great story of success.....now as for that reference to CCR, that is just funny.

The NYS&W's road name survival is an interesting story.
I do like the blue and yellow as I like the Alaska RR.
The orange and black ALCO's are apparently the demonstrators of the C636.

Actually only one was and now they are on the LVAL. Suzie Q have dumped most if not all their Alcos after Rich passed away.
Their GP18's maybe next as I saw them in a line at Binghamton last week. I see a LOT of leased power on the Suzie Q with painted second hand locos being sidelined.
I fear that the suzie Q will become a paper RR as two RR"s CP Rail and NS own the DO shares to project their "marketplaces" from any more competition.
The Delaware Otsego also took over the freight operation of the Staten ISland Railway from Chessie in the 1970's. They stopped operation when Proctor and GAmble closed Port Ivory and ATT closed Nassau smelting. I believe this is an ex-NYO&W switcher on Staten Island when Delaware Otsego controlled the tracks

I believe all three were the Alco Demonstrators via Quebec Cartier Mining
Here's some older photos out of my collection.
And here are some other items from the NYS&W that belonged to my great grandfather from when he worked for them.
It's great to see older small roads like this survive when so many have been swallowed up and lost. Makes railroading a lot more interesting.

Well Ben now I know why all that Erie stuff was on the "Bay"
The initial picture shown of the black and orange 636's are M636's from the Cartier. They are riding on Dofasco trucks, as apposed to the Hi-Ad trucks of the C636's. Only two of the previous demonstrators made it out of Canada. Sadly, the third was scrapped there after having her internals removed. (IIRC, another entity bought the rest of the units offered by Cartier for the engines for parts for their marine application).
When DO was operating the D&H via Susie-Q, I was lucky enough to catch their B40-8's coming through Newark, DE over Chessie trackage rights. IIRC, the initial five they had were purchased new from GE, with the remainder being funded by CSX. When DO did not win the bid to purchase the D&H, they no longer needed the rest of the B40-8's and turned them back over to CSX.
My only exposure/knowledge of the Susie-Q was through the little Carsten's book. Really liked what was in that book.
The early maroon and light gray scheme on the RS-1's was classic. The scene at Hainseburg was the bomb. (Shucks, lots of scenes were excellent.)
Haven't a clue what the Susie-Q has morphed into, but from the pics in this thread it looks like it expanded considerably?
I attended St Anthony's School in Hawthorne NJ that was 1 1/2 blocks east of the Susie Q. I remember looking out the fifth and sixth grade classroom windows during the fall and winter and watching Susie Q GP-18s pass through town.
