This is G gauge 2 rail. I've been waiting for a manufacturer to come out with modern engines. There's a few trickling in. I saw other's do it so I figure I'll give it a shot. I want an SD70ACE in G scale!! I guess I'll have to make it myself.

Old axiom: "Want anything done right?... do it yourself!"
I see this problem infests other than O gauge/scale.
Nice...keep the photos coming in on your progress.
Joe, Looks like you are off to a fantastic start. The Cab looks outstanding!
Joe. Looking forward to seeing progress on the SD70 and your flat car.
You know, I've learned about lighting and taking pics. Some times, it works to my advantage!
Thanks all, Joe
Wow nice! please post more pictures of your progress. eventually i want to attempt building modern diesels myself as well, so seeing how others does it is a big help.
Good Luck, nice start!
Making progress Joe
Good work Joe, keep it up.
Great work! Thanks for posting. I think I am a long way off from trying something like this!

after seeing your layouts in the mag, I think you'd find this easy.
Just a thought, are you gogin to be satisfied with just one. I think as your are set up you cut for 3 models using whatever jigs you make. Then you have supplies to assemble other later for a group.
Phil
Just curious... where did you find plans and dimensions to scale down your parts for the build of this loco?
I'm using several articles in different mags that I've saved. The main drawings were in Model Railroader a few years back. There was a spread with the EMD SD70ACE and the GE EVO on the other side. I think they're in S scale so I had them enlarged to the correct dimensions.
Using a scale MTH O gauge model helps with the third dimension. I multiply stuff by 48 and then divide by 32 to get what I need now for this model. It's hard to get stuff perfect. I probably will allow some "close enoughs" as I build. Making all the door panels should be fun.
I have not made any jigs. I really think a mold would be easier to make duplicates.
Joe,Looks like you have been thinking about this project for awhile. Looking forward to your thoughts and pictures as you make progress.
Joe, Fantastic progress! Definitely will make an awesome locomotive. If you decide to make a mold, I would love to have one for the mantle. BTW, do you know Eric Ogundipe? I Believe he made an SD70M-2 and a GEVO in the CITX scheme several years back in 1:29

The article in Garden RR of his SD70M-2 CITX is what inspired me. I prefer MTH trucks and can not find a USA shell and frame for conversion like he did. Well, I did not want to scrap out a whole engine just for the brake fan and frame. I have not seen his gevo?
Joe, Sweet. Looking through the archive it appears to be an AC4400CW and not a GEVO. None the less an incredible pair of custom built locomotives!
Here are several more photos of Eric's incredible work at Marty Cozad's railroad.
Those are just amazing... Thanks for the photos.
Darned....those pics look like the real thing! WOW......
Alan
Joe, That's looking great!
Can you build me one at the same time? Why make only 1 when you can make 2 for twice the cost..and time
Joe, great to see you taking the bull by the horns. Have fun.
Mike, great shots.
Joe, Now that is starting to have some real shape to it. You are making good progress
Looking good! can't wait to see how the rest of the build goes
Joe that is coming along nicely....I'll take 3 please...
Joe, Definitely looking good!
Joe, as a died in the wool EMD fan, THANK YOU for not building one of those old smelly ge units. The world needs more folks like you to stand for truth, justice, and the EMD, great job.
Dick
ps. I know it's not EMD but you know what I mean.
If you're really building this machine with your own mitts... I am impressed!
I'm not a model builder, but I appreciate quality fabrication. This, Joe, looks like high quality fabrication. Well done, lad.
I'm assuming you're working with flat sheets of styrene, and fabricating your parts?
If this is the case, brilliant!
Rick
Brilliant will be if I can capture the look in all the grilles! It's really close to working with wood. You just can't putty up big mistakes as easy.
Hi joe, I see you have your CSX &CNW guides in front of you as you work. I was looking for my favorite to be your guide
Bill, I have several pics on the computer for guidance also. I believe most of the CN's, are SD70M-2s??? I may change my target.......
JOEEEEEEEEE OHHHHH NOOOOOOOO
Ooops, did I guess wrong?? Hmmm, or is it the DC version??
