Hi Guys,
Does anyone remember watching Capt. Kangaroo as a youngster and occasionally seeing and hearing the short segment featuring this song (I'm a Train)and the video featuring UP steam. I can find the song when I do a Google search, but I'm looking to find the original video and song together.
Does anyone know where one can find the video and song together? A real catchy tune!

I think you want - "I'm a Train" by Albert Hammon. There is a video on Youtube.
It is also on CD - Albert Hammon's Greatest Hits. He also sang - "It never rains in
California"
I miss Captain Kangaroo also. He had a lot of train songs.
A performance of that very song was used by Tom McComas and James Touhy in their very first film, entitled Lionel (1975). I had a 16mm print of that film and did a review for The Lion Roars, the LCCA publication.
I use to love his train day.

I rember seeing and hearing this song on the good captain kangaroo.The up steamer was a 4-12-2 pulling boxcars.At the end was a shot from behind the train.At sunset you see the cabosse.I had to wait for a csx freight train on its way to monroe from charlotte nc.I have to cross the tracks.I didn,t mind at all.There was another train song about trains.This time was the santa fe and sp freight trains.
The layout that I remember on Capt. Kangaroo was Lionel. I was in grade school back in fifties when I remember seeing it. He would operate all the Lionel accessories and operating cars. I always enjoyed watching him before I went to school. My favorite character from the show was Mr. Moose.
