Soo Line #1003, ALCO 1913, a Mikado (2-8-2), owned by the Steam Locomotive Heritage Association, will be running in Chicagoland on August 5 through 7, according to a press release. A Partial Schedule has been released, as follows:

August 5 (To Chicago)

  • Depart Fox Lake Metra station 7:35 PM
  • Depart Siding Grayslake 8:05 PM
  • Move Past Morton Grove 9:15 PM

August 6 – Private Event

August 7 (From Chicago)

  • Depart Rondout 7:20 AM
  • Arrive Fox Lake 8:05 AM



NOTE: I have no information on the August 6 "Private Event", nor where in Chicago its terminus may be.

I actually went to their website and this info is posted there.  Didn't bother with Facebook.  Of course, it's always possible their web page was hacked, but their history seems to show that they do stuff like this every now and then, but mostly in Wisconsin.

Using the internet to go straight to the source?  Gasp!!!

I guess you can run steam on track that is not your own IF the host railroad is steam friendly. Metra has hosted the 765 in the past but this was not a public excursion. Public excursions require liability insurance. Now they probably couldn't run this on BNSF or any other class 1 railroad unless the class 1 was willing to accommodate a steam locomotive move in between its freight trains.
