Hi I have a o gauge New York Central line MTH train. I have had this unit about five years and now the sound and smoke are working intermittently. The thing is that they work at the same spot on the track as they go around. There are about six places on the track that they will kick on for a second and then shut off. Im guessing I have a track problem but do not know how to correct it. Has anyone ever encountered this problem.

Have you cleaned your track and wheels on the engine recently? Try that first as modern electronics are prone to dirt build up as well as old.

If that don't work try using a voltmeter to test the voltage at the tracks, or run the train when you have the room very dark, if a track is sparking because of bad connections you will see it, it will be a faint orange color to medium red color at the track connection or wire if it is bad.
