I have a very nicely done Weaver 2-8-0 but would love to have sound in it. I'm very new to Hi-rail after many years in HO, so I'm still learning (so be gentle please!), what is everyone's recommendations? I have mainly Protosound 2.0 locomotives and DCS. Thanks in advance for any replies.

Tom,
As much as I like DCS and PS2/3, I've found Weaver engines are very easy to add Lionel RailSounds courtesy of Electric Railroad Company, which is one of our forum sponsors.
I agree with MIKADO, ERR is the best and easiest way to go. I have done so, along with TMCC Command upgrade, in Weaver engines, along with MTH PS1, K Line, 3rd Rail and some Lionel conventional.

I disagree that ERR is "Best" That is subjective. If you run mainly DCS than you might be better off going PS-3 and upgrading it fully. Especially if the Weaver does not have Command control already. You can get richer features. This really depends more on what operating system you like better and what features you want. G
I operate both Lionel TMCC/Legacy and MTH DCS. There are pros and cons on both system, neither is perfect in my opinion. I do, however, feel that the TMCC/Legacy is nicer.
Having said that, I have converted several of my PS1 and PS2 engines to TMCC using the Electric Railroad Company Cruise Commander and sound. I have found that the folks at ERR, especially Ken, to be extremely helpful. I believe the cost of the control and sound boards is slightly less than going to PS3. ERR ships much quicker than MTH and it is a lot easier to reach Ken at ERR either by email or phone. I've had to wait several days for an email or call back from MTH.
I am not an electronic expert, but following the ERR instruction and talking to Ken, made the first install a piece of cake. I just upgraded another MTH PS1 engine last week, took me only a couple of hours.
I still have several PS2 DCS engines that will remain as DCS, even though I prefer using my Legacy remote over the MTH remote. Yes, there are some features in DCS that I wish Lionel would have done, but I personally find the Legacy remote is much nicer and easier to use.
That's my 2 cents.
