I’ve just got one of these, used but after a short period on a powered track it started up and obeys commands. However, there’s a lot of static in the sound, which is not garbled but has the noise in the background. This is a PS2 5 volt model. I have not opened it up yet but was going to in order to install a battery substitute I have from an MTH repair specialist.
My question is whether the static is likely to be a speaker problem or might it be a battery issue that the substitute would cure? If it’s the speaker, does anyone know the replacement part number or rating? I’m not sure what to look for on the speaker itself - corrosion or the like - that might indicate that’s the real problem. Thanks in advance.
P.S. I will probably have the PS2 board replaced with a PS3 assuming that will control this unit (can’t see why it would not).
