I just bought 6-84944, a PRR E6. It’s a stunning engine. But intermittently the chuffing disappears when it starts moving above low speed. I can obviously get it back to Lionel or to an authorized service center, but wondering if anyone has any ideas on this. The chuff always works at very low speed. Over half the time it goes away when the engine moves a little faster (but still what I consider slow).

Even while the chuff disappears, the rest of the sounds and functions work perfectly.

Thanks everyone!

Have you tried cleaning your track? These new Lionel engines, especially the H10, are very sensitive to dirty track. I just bought an Atlantic last week and the sounds cut out like my H10. I will be ordering another Legacy YLB from GRJ.

Interesting idea! I will try to get the track clean and see if that improves it.

Well, I thoroughly cleaned the track, but I am having the same issue. I'm going to drop it off at Henning's in Lansdale PA and let them figure this one out. Probably will have a YLB installed at the same time.
