Hi Guys, have been buying up a few O gauge 2 rail locos but none with sound onboard. I'd like to get decent smoke ,sound and lights into most of them. However I'm not the brightest spark when it comes to electronics ,whats the best way to go to get decent results without spending a fortune in cash or in brain-taxing wiring. I see MTH make 2 rail CNJ pacifics for example ,come with all bells and whistles out the box, but do these need digital control or will the effects work with straight 12V DC power ? Thanks guys DAVY

go look into the electronic section on this site.. planty of info..this might help you..if your planning to runa 3.0 forget it.. you would need to run dcc with no more then 9volts of power or the train would startup...I want to do that to my 3rd rail S2 turbine.. put dont know if it would be worth doing that to it??heres the post on it..https://ogrforum.com/d...ent/4667859476223454
Davy Ive given myself headaches over this same question, do you plane to use just striate DC ? If so MTH PS2, two rail loco's will give you basic sound on DC.

Basic effects work on plain DC. The smoke, chuffing, breaking, acceleration sounds and lights operate on plain DC. However, for ProtoSound 2.0 or 3.0 locomotives there is also an inexpensive control option using the DCS remote commander. It's found for around $32 or more and can control one loco at a time, blow the horn and whistle. Its basically DCS lite.
Hi Guys this Ps2 sounds good to me. I don't care about all the other noises.Decent chuff and whistle ,all I really need or want. Can you buy MTH sound units for fitting to other locos or do MTH keep them exclusive to their own units ?. Thanks again guys davy
Davy MTH do have PS2 boards available for steam and diesel they come with a speaker and lights but Im hanging out for there new PS3 boards . I have a TIU and realy like DCS Ive been using there variable channel to run my DC loco's, but Michaels sugestone is great If you think you can stop at one. Its fair to tell you DCC is the norm here but PS3 will give you this option too.
