Hope those folks have a good time with that beautiful Harriman Pacific.

You're right HW, the 4449 is "big" steam...and...you have a personal connection with that engine.  Although I am not a railroad man, I have a personal connection with the 2472 and it is "big" steam... that is operable... to us out here in the San Francisco Bay Area.  This Pacific also has a connection to our Bay Area.  It sure is a beautiful Harriman Pacific!  Matt

Matt,

For what it's worth, we even doubleheader with #2472, in the lead, back in 1991. As best as I can remember, #2472 was at the 1991 California State Railroad Museum for their tenth anniversary Rail Fair. A "special excursion" was put together after the Rail Fair event, in order to return #2472 back to Oakland. Thus we doubleheaded to Oakland, cut off the #2472, and the we returned back to Sacramento. All in all, a GREAT TRIP!

That must've been an awesome sight to see!  I also have photos of the 4449 when it was painted as the Freedom train.  In the photo is sitting on street tracks, on display at Aquatic Park, which is near Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco.  Matt
