Almost brand new Southern Pacific 2696 EMD MP15DC, SP Class ES415-7, is at Bayshore Roundhouse, on an unrecorded date in February 1975. Reportedly SP 2696 was built by EMD in Dec. 1974 as construction number 73625-07. It became UP 1295 and in Dec. 2000 became UPY 1295. As of 2011 it was still in service in Denver.  My favorite railroad at my favorite rail yard!  Photo taken by and courtesy of Steve Sloan.

I can't speak for anyone else on this forum but I've been looking for this particular SP MP15DC diesel for a couple of years now without any success. Atlas Models imported a very limited number of these SP yard switchers in 'O' scale a few years back but they vanished almost overnight from dealers shelves. Atlas has promised to import more of them this year but I'll believe it when I see it!

SP red / gray scheme is the red headed step child of O gauge. You'll have more success finding a fantasy daylight or black widow scheme.

MTH = Could have done an SW1500 in SP.

How does a longer frame "makes a difference" in very cold weather? Also, "makes a difference" in WHAT?

The longer frame allowed for increased fuel capacity, up to 1400 gallons.  Sw1500's had 1100 gallon tanks.  However, not all mp15dc's had the larger tanks.  Some had the traditional 1100 gallon size.

The other advantage, theoretically at least, was the use of the Blomberg trucks.  The Blombergs supposedly allowed for higher speeds.  I say supposedly because some sources also suggest the flexicoil trucks found on most sw1500's allowed for equivalent top speeds as the mp15dc, in the range of 60 miles per hour.

I've never seen where a toilet was or was not included on the mp15dc.  But I will make a guess that toilet inclusion was not the governing parameter driving the introduction of a brand new locomotive model.

Did you make this?

Ahoy, fellow Dieselovers  !I'm told the "AC" and "DC" have provision for a head, but having never been aboard, I can't specifically verify that conclusion, folks. I'm sure that even with the space available, it would be a customer option.   .....and a good one too! If you have a 1500, like that MTH job, yer just SOL !

Closest thing we have to that in O gauge is the MTH RailKing scale MP15AC.  I have one of these, and they did an excellent job on it, including the correct brakewheel, ladder, and the number boards above the cab, which was not common across all the roads.

Only thing to gripe about the MTH production model is that it has the earlier generation Blomberg trucks (with the Hyatt journal boxes), and not the more current Blomberg trucks that the catalog picture depicts.  But at least they did put Bloomberg trucks on it to begin with.

SPSF, you did an excellent repaint job on that SW1500.  And you're right; the good scarlet & gray, which is the longest-lasting paint scheme SP ever had, doesn't get its due credit in the O gauge world.  Only thing you need left to do on that model is fab some number boards above the cab, or maybe see if you can get the boards from MTH that they use on the aforementioned MP15AC model.
