i am using a spdt on-off-on switch to toggle between conventional and legacy.    ( I have two z4000 one is for conventional power the other legacy).     This system works great however I wanted to add an led indicator light on the control panel to make it quicker to know which power source I have on.

i can't figure out how to add the led to the switch so when legacy power is on led is one...etc...

any my help would be great.

Another option.  You probably have an unused DC output wall adapter from a cellphone charger or the like.  Connect the DC output to the Legacy transformer output.  Place the LED (and resistor) on the track center after the switch.  Then, when the SPDT directs the Legacy voltage onto track center, the DC voltage completes the circuit to the LED.

The idea is the DC adapter voltage is electrically isolated from the two Z4000 AC voltages so you can use a single "pole" to switch both the AC track voltage and the DC LED voltage.

Arthur, it was a half-baked idea.  DPDT is correct solution.

The idea was to add a signal to Legacy power (but not to Conventional power ) that could be detected by the LED on the other side of the switch.  To your point, a simple DC signal would not provide enough isolation or ability to be differentiated since and LED at 60 Hz looks solid.  A high frequency tone would pass the switch but be blocked by the AC power return path with a corresponding detector at the LED - hopelessly complex.

Yup. Eyesight, memory, etc.

I was thinking of a bare-bones version of the "fox and hound" electricians circuit tracer that adds a signal to live circuits follow where they go.  Definitely half-baked. I couldn't see the oven temperature setting, I forgot to turn the oven on, etc.
