Good morning ya’ll,

it’s been a banner season for big snows in the high country.

In this frame pristine in 4-5 feet of snow are in place left by a classic upslope storm on the east side of the Great Divide below Rollins Pass. Traffic was good with several trains after sun up well worth the investment into the hills. Pinecliffe was reporting over 4 feet at this hour and over 5 feet at Tolland making for a slow ride for the crews along the tunnel district along the slide fences. BNSF H-PVODEN1-14 with 5973 in swoosh lettering crawls in the trench around the classic Crescent turn into a softened beautiful full sun view in a sea of endless Moffat Cement. Friday morning March 15, 2024.

Better than 5 feet of snow fell under the Great Divide along the Moffat Road in this storm. The morning investment started trackside for the GJ crawling from tunnel 1 and the big grade down Coal Creek Canyon at Blue Mountain in an at any cost attempt to capture the receding storm light on this first light shortly after sunrise. The snow was well over 2 feet deep here in Arvada, CO.

Northbound on the Joint Line in blizzard conditions Q ALTPTL 12 is rolling about 15mph per restrictions at Acequia, CO. Roughly 28” of snow was reported less than 5 track miles south of here as we stand in near waste deep snow along the right of way. The crew I am sure is making fun of us trying to capture operations on this most difficult of travel days. 3/14/24

In between the inversion I lay on the shutter for a fleeting moment an attempt to capture a fast moving freezing fog bank obscure my subject as it too passes at 25mph. 3/15/24

Amtrak 5 crawls through the trench through pristine heavy snow left from the previous 2 days along the Moffat Road. Between 4-5 feet are here at Crescent through to Tolland, CO.

Great effort and nice shots. It was indeed a banner year for spring snow. We were late spring sking at Copper Mountain ski area (75 miles west of Denver driving distance) this time last month, and the snow was still excellent. Got an email from them a couple days ago saying they finally closed May 12, after 181 days of skiing, and 30 feet of snow. They said their lifts were spinning the latest since the winter of '95-96.  The headline was "Cheers to the winter that wouldn't quit!"
