Did some railfanning at the UP Yard in South San Francisco, CA.  It's about 5 minutes away from my house.  A lot of motive power today, so I got a lot of mug shots.

Thank you Matt.  I totally enjoy RR yards.  I fly to the West Coast via Chicago several times per year and pray for clear weather so I can see the yards when landing at Midway or O'Hara.

And, I am in the middle of remodeling my yard on my layout.  I have studied several local yards and have been trying to incorporate a good image in my yard.  But, there is one small problem.  Most yards are really rough around the edges.  Can you imagine trying to get our model trains to navigate track like in your picture below.

Wood,
I love rail yards too.  I guess I kinda like the "rough" edges.  We had a wonderful, large yard about two minutes from my house.  It was the Southern Pacific Bayshore Yard.  It had a large classification area, shops and a roundhouse.  The only thing remaining is the roundhouse.  Although it's been declared a state historic building,it is in horrible disrepair.  Part of the roof burned off in 2001, due to homeless living in it.  Matt
