Hello, it's me again!

This time it's an engine, this one.  It is hesitating/stalling on O72 switches.  We've done some continuity testing and discovered that the roller on the front truck is not "collecting".  (Lionel's term.)  We have traced conductivity on the roller to just inside the engine and there is where we find the "rub".  How do you get these buggers apart!!!!

I have poked, prodded, twisted and turned everything I could think of the figure out how the truck comes off.  We need to follow the wire into the power board to determine where contact is getting lost.

Here are pix of the inside and the truck in question.  The purple wire coming off the pickup changes to red and then disappears into the power board.  To that point we have good connection.

Ok, thanks for the input guys!

We know that from the collector (roller) past the heatshrink is good.  Tested that.

Tried removing the screw next to the plug in the truck, but not the collector screw.  Will give it another shot if need to.

The wiring diagram is very helpful, should be able to trace to where the wire goes from that and based on the diagram, may not need to drop the truck.

Will post results when have tried out the above recommendations.

Thanks, you're the best

I had a connector something like that, that was bad in a steamer I converted. I hadn't noticed something not working before the upgrade. I did notice it after completing the new upgrade where a light would not work.

 To speed the story,....

The factory simply crimped the tiny metal piece on over the wires insulation without stripping it properly. So one lead wasn't passing power.

Thanks for the giggle, hehehe.  No, I won't be anytime soon , but I get your drift, and/if the need arises...  you know.

Thanks to GGG I have my new connector and all of that is solved.  However...  there's always an "if" isn't there.  I have a washer left over and I don't know where it came from.  I broke down the truck to get to the screw that held the board in place that the wires ran under to get length on the wires to make the replacement.  Whew!  In the process of all that, this tiny little washer dropped out from somewhere and I didn't see it.  Think it's important
