I have a layout that is 6' wide and 12' in lenght. Was thinking about laying two loops of standard gauge track along with a few switches. Is it possible to do so with the layout only being 6' wide I am not that familiar with the best radius to use in regards to the track. Also any suggestions on what type  of track to use. I see that MTH now has standard gauge track along with Gargraves and Lionel. Any suggestions on a layout diagram. Thanks.

USA Track makes 42" and 57" diameter curves, so a double loop in a 6-foot width is entirely practical. I agree with Ron and John about the quality of USA Track. I've built two Standard Gauge layouts in the past six months, one with MTH track and one with USA track, and the USA is vastly superior. It's made of heavier metal and the ties are much more solidly staked in place. They will also custom cut straight track up to 100", which I took advantage of to reduce the number of joints on my home layout.

For switches, get Ross. The MTH switches are pretty, but the Ross work a lot better. With USA Track and Ross Switches, you will not only have better quality but the satisfaction of all made in USA.
