The idiots who wrote the article state that "It appears that only one gate arm was down in the intersection, allowing the driver to proceed through. "

If you watch the video you see that there is only one gate  on the street side.  There is no second gate at all.

Yeah - the driver was driving on the wrong side of the road as they executed the turn.  Of course there was no gate on the wrong side of the road!

The woman reportedly stated that she "Didn't see the train.". Maybe the fact that the gates were down, the red lights were flashing, and the horns were sounding didn't give her enough clues!

What that woman needs is a self driving car that as soon as she backs out of her driveway, the car goes around the block and parks itself back in the garage.   The car is locked for 24 hours at which time it unlocks and allows the owner to repeat the above routine.

There should also be some public warnings about driving by GPS near railroad crossings.  We had one GPS incident here in Belmont  few years ago.  This woman was told be the GPS to turn left, for a street maybe 50 feet from the crossing.  She turned too soon and was on the railroad track about on the rails.  she called 911 and asked what to do.  They told her to get out of the car, which fortunately she was willing to do.  A few minutes later a commuter rail train demolished the car.

Clearly the engineer of the train was at fault - it's obvious the driver of the car was creeping toward the railroad tracks with the intent of crossing - the engineer should have been in better control of his train - put the brakes on and let the driver of the auto safely cross over the tracks

Yes, the gate was on correct side of the road - the driver deliberately clearly saw the gate and avoided it - drove on the wrong side - idiots defending idiots - oh, sorry - it was California...

Some people have a really hard time understanding sarcasm in written form. You'd think sarcasm was new to social media and nobody ever saw it before in writing.  How would you ever understand Chaucer, Shakespeare or Twain? This is why books get banned from libraries. Then again, my own library seems to think books are passe and have started stocking bookshelves with DVDs, no wonder...
