I know that MTH remade the 90 degree crossover, however, I do not they have made the 45 degree crossover? Does anyone know of a shop or parts dealer that might have an original for the tubular track that I might be able to purchase? Hopefully is intact and no trusted too badly?

Your input is appreciated,

From what I can tell in my recent couple of years dabbling in Standard Gauge toy trains, none of the Standard Gauge track suppliers are producing the 45-degree cross right now.  I do see the 45 pop up on eBay every now and then, so you might want to configure an eBay "search" which will generate an email alert when a new item is listed.

Joe,

I must concur with David about eBay. I would like to add two possible searches that you might should consider. The first would be to join TCA if you have not done so. By doing so you will be able to expand your search even farther. The second possibility would be to start contacting toy train clubs in your region of the US.

Lastly, exercise patience and don't give up. Remember that there is still NOS out there.

JoeG,

As I recall, the MTH 90 degree crossing has a unique switch on the bottom which gives the layout builder some electrical wiring options not possible using an original Lionel crossing.

In addition, you may want to look for an original "Ives" 45 degree crossing vice a Lionel one as the Ives crossing has some electrical wiring advantages over the Lionel crossing.  I have both but they're packed away and not readily available for photographing, otherwise I'd post pictures.  Maybe someone who does have them on hand can take and then post pictures of them here.

James,

Did you ever complete your 45 degree crossing, and if you did, do you have any photos of it that you could show us?

No, sadly I haven't been in the train room in almost two years.  The base was going to be a thin pressed board, and I have sheet metal that I was fashioning into a plate for the bottom  to connect the rails.  It's overall foot print is much smaller than the vintage piece I found, which would be better for the small space I've been working in. You can see the Lionel piece, center left of this photo.
