Hello everyone. As I mentioned in my Track Layout post, I'm brand new to this hobby. I have started my small 4x8 layout and wanted to get some help locating a Steam Engine and cars. I know it won't be prototypical but I wanted to model it close to the Northwestern Pacific Railroad--the Redwood Empire Route. The years can be from 1850's to 1950's. I found some books and a good website for photos but I think I picked a tough subject for finding period locomotives in O-Gauge. Does anyone have any guidance?

Thanks!

Oakfan, you sure have picked a tough subject.  Let's try 4-4-0s.  Forget Lionel and MTH "General" locos.  They are not anywhere near scale, but MTH makes scale sized 4-4-0s.  Again MTH makes a nice turn of the century PRR H3 2-8-0.  I also have a Sunset Third Rail B&O 2-8-0 That is pretty small.  Lionel made a nice light 2-6-0 and an SP Harriman 2-8-0.  Weaver made a nice contemporary 2-8-0.  Lionel made a rather heavy 4-6-0.  They also made a good selection of geared locomotives, a Heisler, a two truck Shay and a three truck Shay, and MTH made a nice Climax.  THERE are various electric trolleys and mu cars.  Cars are easier to find.  Happy hunting …….and good luck.    ODD-D

Thanks! That give me a lot to check out. And yes, I’m learning very quickly that there isn’t a lot out there specific to my plans. This particular railroad is interesting to me because I have lived along the its tracks my whole life. I don’t know why I haven’t researched it until now. I was never really into trains before so I guess that’s why.

Very neat web site on the northwestern pacific. I have a son in eureka and love the Samoa cookhouse and the roundhouse etc that is down the hill. Looking forward to seeing what you model.

It’s up north from me but I’ve been to the cookhouse a couple time. I’ve seen pictures of the roundhouse but never stopped. I need to get back up there.
