Who makes a good steam era NYC caboose and what kind was most common?

Sorry, that cupola is too tall on that K-Line caboose to a be a New York Central 19,000 series "steam era" caboose.
Actually the 17900 series did have tall cupola's. (and 17700)
Besides the Mullet River kit caboose, the Lionel pre war 717 is actually the most accurate. The current crop either have the wrong trucks in the wrong location or wrong detail on the superstructure.
Lionel Plastic caboose has the correct trucks in the correct location with truss rods but the roof grabs are wrong as is the ladder over the roof.
Lionel, MTH and Williams brass or diecast cabooses have the wrong trucks to close to the ends. They should not extend under the end platforms.
I have modified a number of Lionel and MTH diecast cabooses by changing the trucks and their location.
