While most will likely be busy fawning over 765's trips on NS (and deservedly so), CP 1293 will again be headed to the Cuyahoga Valley Scenic Railroad this September.

Super Power's great and all, but this one's still my favorite...

Rich,

"like a slightly downsized Berk?"

I think you're kidding us.

However, it is a passenger engine and I am sure it will put on a good show. It is a light Pacific and a good performer.

I assume everyone knows that the trailer truck on #1293 is a part of the frame and does not swing in the same manner as a Delta type trailer due to the difference in the way it is mounted?

Rich,

I was going to post earlier re the 765 trips out of Bellevue last weekend. Whoever set the valves deserves a lot of credit. #765 was running "square as a die", as they say......

Absolutely - I never miss out on steam this close to home!  I already have tickets for the dome for the "Almost All-track Tour" on the 15th, and then coach on the afternoon of the 30th.  I'm planning on chasing a few days as well, and that will likely result in me riding a few of the other trips depending on weather.  Can't wait, the 1293 always puts on a great show in the valley!

Central Ohio 1293, along with auxiliary tender, crew car, and Central Ohio 1800, are seen below as they stopped at Boston Mills ski resort to fuel up before heading to Fitzwater for the night.  The second shot shows the OP, Tim Botti, atop the tender helping to load coal.  She sounded great and looked even better - it's going to be a great month on the Cuyahoga Valley!  Hope everyone has their tickets!

EDIT 9/6@22:13 - My apologies for the shaking video, I left my tripod and camera at home so this is all cell footage - AFTER I ran up to the top of the nearby steps only to find the trees blocking the view and running back down.  Better shots to come, I promise!

Some pacing footage from today.  The video posted above got ran through the new youtube de-shaking algorithm and it worked wonders, so I tried it on this video and it was not so good.  The pacing screwed with it considerably, at times making it look like the locomotive was shape shifting.  It's been undone now.

Overall she looked good and sounded great.  Looking forward to riding behind her next weekend!

Just got home from our steamless brunch trip. Disappointed that the 1293 wasn't pulling but it was an enjoyable afternoon. We were told they will offer us tickets on one of the trips next week.  All in all a nice afternoon met some nice people had a good meal and enjoyed my first train ride in about 25 years.

They replaced one smoking Canadian locomotive for another with a prettier paint job (B&O 800 is really ex-CN/VIA 6780) - seems like a fair trade! Sadly this is making me wonder what's more rare - a steam locomotive or an ALCO/MLW cab unit on point?

In all seriousness it's too bad that the 1293 was down for today's trip, but I am glad to hear it is nothing major (from the sounds of it) and that she should be up and running for next weekend.  Still shocked that the CVSR would release any such information beyond "it's a minor mechanical problem", let alone the false statement concerning a blown piston.

John

Look, Listen, and Live!  I remember too much of my HS physics class to ever even attempt such things.

Thanks for the compliment, that was my first pacing shot.  Will try to get more, maybe even with someone else driving!  I also think it's time to try my hand at one of those DIY steady-cam rigs.

Hope to see you around.  Dome for the almost all track tour, perhaps?

He doesn't own "Ohio Central" anymore, so we can guess he needed to be called something.  As a Columbus native, I don't mind the idea of expanding the classical boundaries of central Ohio if it now includes the Age of Steam Roundhouse! :-)
