Thanks! Has a short video as well. I am a bit surprised that the ventelation system can still handle the smoke and steam.
Great story James, thanks for posting, I have these Jintys in LT livery , they look great.
That is really awesome, there must have been lots of startled people that didn't know about it when they seen it coming.
I saw this on the BBC news at lunchtime today. I'd have loved to have been able to get a ticket for the main event running in January. That should be quite a spectacle.
Edit: Here's a link to the BBC news video clip. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-london-20759707
That was great! What was the Yellow car on the end used for?
I just found this on YouTube.
Thanks James for the article...very interesting
And thanks Chris for the video...

They have some other historic items there. The squat yellow unit is an older battery-electric dual-power loco.

That's becasue it's the circular and wide[from english standards] Metropolitain line which was built for that purpose. You must be thinking of the other "regular tube" lines that intersect under centre city london.
No worries, the Metropolitain line doesn't go through the likes of Picadilly Circus. just "Mind the GAP!"

It's interesting to note that the first underground railways in London were built with clearances for smoke ventilation and 7-foot broad gauge trains operating on dual-gauge tracks.
The later "Tube" lines were engineered for expedient machine-boring of tunnels in deep clay strata, and of course have always used electric traction.
Was a portion of this line used in one or more episodes of the most recent Sherlock Holmes TV series that aired on PBS?
