Thank you DL&W Pete.  There is a story in this morning's Scranton Times about Steamtown receiving a mammoth collection of rail road archives from Syracuse University.  Good article.  It will be years before they can print and scan the several thousand glass negatives they got as part of the collection but that will be worth waiting for!

It was good to meet with DL&W Pete for the brief time he was in line.  I spent all of Saturday at the Big Boy with one of the volunteers, Tom.  I was in the cab for the early shift, and managed the line for the afternoon.

Some photos of mine I can add to the thread...

Canadian National 3254 is the only live steam engine at Steamtown this year, but with asbestos removed from several others, new boiler jacketing and RR markings added to many of them, they became a hit of the event along with the visiting equipment. Peeking out of the roundhouse stall is Groveton Paper's 2-4-2T no. 7.

The main yard was so full of equipment that the Delaware Lackawanna decided to display many of their locomotives in the state office building's parking lot and on Bridge 60.

Here is the first batch of lucky people when the cab first opened at 10:00.

Fireman Tex.  By the end of the day, 738 people hopped on the cab of Big Boy. I have no idea how many visited on Sunday.

Chris,

Be careful what you wish for! Last time I was at the Reading Company Technical & Historical site there is a link to donate money for the restoration of the Reading T-1 at Steamtown.

Maybe the RDG # 2124 can double head with RDG # 2102 sometime in about five years or better.

Well, some things never die on the Internet!

I had no idea that website raising funds for 2124 was still active, but I know that there is no more Steamtown Volunteer Association, and the e-mail and phone numbers are no longer active.  I wonder if anyone has made donations to this cause, and where the money went?

The information regarding Boston & Maine 3713 is still accurate, and her restoration is coming along well enough.  For updates on her progress, check out www.project3713.com

Not sure if the website is still active but there is a support for # 2124 link from the RDG Co & Hist. site for a petion drive for # 2124 to be rebuilt after another steam engine is completed.

Have no idea about what is going on with Steamtown volunteers.
