You do not have to be a member of the NMRA.

I've attended three of these meets over the past 5 years and they are a wealth of information. In fact, this year I am giving a clinic called "Modeling Weirton Steel". The meet brings together O, HO, and N scale modelers with all levels of experience. There is truly something here for everyone from the novice to the expert. You will come away with lots of cool ideas and practical ways to put steel related structures and operations on your layout.

Hey George I really wish I was in Ohio right about now. I have relatives in Akron and friends in Youngstown. Kent is right there in between but I have really never had a reason to be there until now.

I don't have the space for modeling steel mill activities, but if I did--regardless of scale-- you can be darn sure I would make plans to attend this event. And since I grew up in one of the nation's largest steel industry towns (Youngstown), I am going to make an effort to attend just for the learning experience.

You'll find it very worthwhile. And it's only a hop, skip, and jump from you. I have a little working experience inside a steel mill, but some of the presenters have spent their careers in the steel industry. The models on display, typically HO and N scale, are nothing short of spectacular. I have learned a great deal from attending these meets, to the point where I have scrapped my 3-D backdrop version of Weirton's Open Hearth and am rebuilding it in more prototypical fashion.
