Hard to believe that my Lionel PRR torpedo engine 18052 is already 24 years old. I bought this new from a dealer way back in 1996. It had been sitting for a while so it was time to stretch its legs. Put on the track and it fired right up. While it does not compare to current production - ac pullmor motor, puffing smoke, railsounds 2, its a work horse for what it has to offer. Smooth runner and can pull a lot. I see these often on da bay for very reasonable prices. Its been one of my favorites and very dependable. What are some of your old favorites?

Its hard to pick just one favorite because i enjoy prewar and postwar and like the mth engines along with some marx . As i type this running a marx 333 pulling a 1689w and 5 tinplate 600 series cars.
I don't know i love them all, today the marx 333s are getting there turn.
All Nation (2 rail) Ten Wheeler:
Probably from the 1950s-60s, so it's "still running after 60-70 years".

79 - 86 years old and still going like a champ.
I have the same locomotive(18052). Just ran it the other day. It is one of my favorites also. I wish I would have got the pullman passenger cars that were offered the same year.
Thanks for posting this. I’m running my 224 tomorrow.
This MTH Premier PRR G-5s 4-6-0 #5740 (20-3031) was offered in the 1999 Volume 1 catalog. It’s young compared to some of the others shown here but one of the oldest I have. It has PS1 with a BCR and a Pittman motor. I have been running it for twenty years and sometimes leave it sitting idle for months but, when I put it on the track, it starts up immediately and runs like new.

I have one of those also. Mine is part of set # 139 which came with 831 Flatcar with stakes and wood load and # 807 Caboose. Mine is presently sitting on a shell for display
Wow...I can't match that, but this Flyer #300:
...(1946) is soon to be 75. Runs smooth as silk; quiet, too!

Here’s one of the early 0-6-0 switchers from 1940 that’s still running strong after 80 years in my family.

The switcher was my uncle’s who hooked me on trains. This Berkshire was my first engine that I got in 1946. It still works great and even still smokes. There must be some pill residue left in the bulb.

I ran a first generation, MTH premier GP-38, 5 volt PS-2 today that is at least 24 years old. It started up wonderfully and ran for two hours smoking up the train room. This thing was beaten up by my kids when they were young. It had a shelf collapse on it, cracking the shell (repaired with crazy glue) and it was derailed numerous times yet all that I ever did was replace the battery with a bcr. It just keeps on going and the speaker is as crisp and loud as new. I keep waiting for it to die, but it just keeps on going. Funny thing is that most of my PS2 five volt subway sets have long died and been upgraded to PS3 or ps2 3 volt boards. I think it may be that they tend to run hot with all the electronics jammed in a small space, but this thing lives on.
Maybe it's a function of getting older, but I had to think what I had in my collection that's 24 years old. That still seems fairly new to me.
Here's a 24 year old Southern Pacific Dash-9. This was my first TMCC locomotive and it runs like new.
