Hi,

I am looking for a storage cabinet with drawers.  I found one with 14 drawers that were about 16" wide and 10.5" deep but the height of the drawer was only 2.25".  That seemed a a bit shallow considering I want to put boxes of screws, etc into the drawers.

Does anyone know of a multidrawer cabinet that has drawers about 3" high?

Thanks,

Ed

Ed, many different combinations of tool chest drawers are available which could be used for boxes of screws, staples, router bits, drills, sandpapers, electrical connections etc.  The drawers are usually larger so  not as many would be needed.

I use a couple of roller boxes with top boxes for most of my supplies and gizmos.

I settled on Snap-On for the actual tools and Husky for the goodies.

Plus Craftsman and others have handy drawer divider trays for  the many widgets we all use.

PS:  There is one of my Huskys that features  3.5" deep drawers.  Not always on the floor at our local HD.

I would show you a picture of mine, but Photobucket is no longer compatible, and my files are on a different computer.  Check out Sheldon's parts cabinet next time you watch a Big Bang rerun.

A library card catalog made from oak is an elegant solution.  I have five of them, one of which is at the airport with big hardware and cotter keys.  All you need to do is pull the rod, and add a Lauan plywood bottom to each drawer.

I like this for moving round to various work sites.

For Ed's question I find fastener caddys easily straddle the base frame.

The shelf will usually rise enough to clear the layout to free up aisle space.  Some times it will lower enough to go under a layout.

I also set portable modules on it to move around my work area.  Very handy.

Available at Pep Boys $29.95 (available only occasionally), Auto Zone $74.99 & Summit Racing  $99.00

Just another idea and not exactly what you were asking about, but here it is. I have several of these for different categories if things like fasteners, electrical, electronics, arduino etc. They are pretty well made, really reasonably priced, you can easily add more as needed, have a large compartment in the top for tools or larger related items and they can be easily carried right to your work area and used there right on the spot. The pull out drawers have adjustable dividers with up to 20 compartments and very nice latches to secure the lid closed. I find them very handy. Available at Harbor Freight: Tool Organizer with 4 Drawers

I have a Klein tool tray system in my truck.  (6) tray rack.  You should be able to custom design the drawers.   I believe there are two sizes of drawers.  Maybe not 3" deep.
Second look, large boxes are (3"deep X 12" X 18").   Click on the underlined phrases to link.

Pictured are the smaller trays. (2"deep X 9 3/4" X 13 5/16")  Trays can be lifted out of the slide drawer assembly. There is a locking bar on the right side of the slide drawer.

This (6) tray and storage system dates to a 1990 Dodge Diesel truck that I had.  Was moved to a 2002 Chevy 2500 and is now in a 2009 Chevy 2500 Truck.  Pretty good stuff, that has held-up for quit some time.  IMO.

What do you mean it's no longer compatible?  This is from PhotoBucket, I just clicked on the IMG link and pasted it here.

Bob's lack of compatibility is at the end user locus.

I have two punch card cabinets and an addressograph cabinet in my shop. They were purchased at auction around 25 years ago. They'd probably be fairly difficult to find today. They do provide great storage.

The addressograph drawers are removable, the punch card cabinet drawers are not.

I have seen other people using them in their shops, usually for automotive stuff.

I have a Harbor Freight 44 inch, 13 drawer roller cabinet in my garage for automotive tools. It is solid, built much better than a couple of the craftsman cabinets I've owned.

The drawers open and close easily, but the latches are a bit stiff. Mine came with the draw liners too. It is extremely heavy.

I put a varnished piece of oak plywood on top so I could use it as a small workbench.

Had I to do it over, I would buy it again.
