I found this on the floor of an antique store. It was pushed back under a shelf near some pre-war items. I thought it might be manufactured because of the quality of paint and craftsmanship. The terminal bars have been recessed into the wood. There are no markings which led me to believe this is homemade

Back in the day, people built a lot of their own stuff, whether it was for their trains or even household item. Take a look at back issues of popular mechanics and similar magazines from the 70's and earlier.

 

Are the windows painted on the wood or are they on paper that is glued to the wood? The transformer inside the structure looks like a very early Lionel unit similar to this one.
