Once engine that I like, is the streamlined Pacifics that Frisco used to pull the FireFly heavyweight train between Oklahoma City and Kansas city.  I am wondering if a Royal Blue could be modified and painted to resemble this engine.  The color is similar, but would require the side plates with Frisco lettering.

Think this might work?

That is a beautiful engine - and appears to be very well done.  However, I don't need that sort of detail, nor am I really interested in an absolute perfect replica.  But your point is well taken - some minor upper boiler extensions that could be generated with a 3D printer, as well as the rear cab extensions.  Wire hand rails could be added too as well as a shiny bell.  In my mind, that would be good enough.  It is not perfect and doesn't need to be.

I am going to see if I can find an old shell and play with it a bit....

I think the Silver Bullet (plastic) shell would give a closer "clone" as the skyline casing on it goes into the nose "bullet" a bit like the prototype, but you'll need pull-mor wheels to be able to haul anything; the plastic boiler is just too light! Should make a snazzy engine.
