Hello Forumites....I'm thinking of stripping (several coats) an old Walthers passenger car ....kit built. I have used alcohol with success by total immersion on metal models, but worry about a wood and metal kit......will the soaking have an adverse affect? Some here have used Easy Off oven cleaner. Any thoughts or other suggestions will be appreciated. thanks, Tom

Is there any window glazing? If so, you are looking at didassembly first. If not, and all you want to do is repaint, carefully apply commercial stripper to the sides and ends, being very cautious about not getting it on the wood. Clean with damp rags.
When it is dry, sand all wood smooth, and apply three coats of lacquer-based sanding sealer, sanding between each coat. Mask the sides carefully, spray flat black on the roof and floor with a rattle can. Once that is dry, you can refinish the sides by again carefully masking your fine woodwork.
Should end up looking like this:
From my scale modeling days, I would remove old testors paint by soaking in Brake fluid. overnight. (all the Fine Scale Modelers magazines recommended this)
(THat was back in the day and their are safety warning about doing this... Well ventilated area.. Wear gloves and mask)
I just did this with a model kit and it worked for me. No guarantee on factory painted stuff.
thanks guys!
