One thing that's lost favor over the years, for a number of reasons, that, for me, holds allure... was chimneys and smoke stacks. Those building crowning glories, gave structures an almost stately presence. Brick carries visual clout; especially, when weathered and aged... plus, a feeling of permanence.

New homes are, often, void of Santa's favorite entrance; and, the once proud Industrial Giants/Landmarks, the majestic Smoke Stacks, are probably far and few between...

A perfect fit, though, for model railroading.

Pacific Central Station, in downtown Vancouver, B.C., still has strong physical presence, for me. The architecture definitely says old school city train station. I walked inside it... recently, after seeing a long  VIA passenger train, sticking out the back... as I was walking in the area.

I was a bit surprised to see the actual size of VIA's operations, there; bigger than I expected. The passenger cars looked very familiar, to me, compared to my former MTH Premier O scale versions; good likeness...

They even had one of those big, heavy looking, old-school baggage carts, nearby. I didn't see any conveyor belts... like airports...

Some of the facility, near the rear, away from the front, main entrance, had some nondescript, modern looking structures(buildings).

I'm glad the grand old front, still commands attention...

That area... off Main St., in Vancouver's once notorious downtown east-side, had a bad reputation... for years; but, Vancouver has done a good job renewing that part of the city. Still a lot of street people, in the area, though.

Maybe, it's best to not look out-of-place here; look and act street-smart...

Actually, Main St. has some really cool looking older architecture, scattered along the street. SOMA(south main) is currently a very trendy, hip area of town; it's actually not the real "south Main St"... more like mid-Main St.

Also, in the area, just north... the actual north end of Main St... it's called Railtown... for obvious reasons.

One of my favorite areas of the city; lots to stimulate your senses...
